Reading Shopper Moments in Modern Trade
A practical way to map where retail media should support the path from list to basket.
Shopper journeys in modern trade are short and interrupted. Lists, habit, promotions, and in-aisle discovery all compete within a few minutes. Retail media works when it supports a specific moment rather than shouting at every step.
Map the journey for one category and one banner first. Note where discovery happens, where comparison happens, and where the basket decision closes. Place media and POS against those moments, not against every available inventory unit.
Digital retail media and physical presence should tell the same story. If the app highlights a bundle, the shelf should make that bundle easy to find. Mixed messages train shoppers to ignore both.
Measure contact quality, not only impressions. Ask whether the placement reached people who could buy that week, in stores with stock, during the promotion window. That lens keeps coordination honest.
